Vintage Garden Market

Stylist + Photographer: Peta Rudd
Assistant: M. Obio David, Monbizwé
I launched my first Vintage Garden Market on Saturday. It was the perfect day. The blue sky was complimented beautifully by mild weather. There was a warm yellow glow in the trees above and the crisp autumn leaves tousled lightly across the woven rug.
My goal was to create a warm and inviting space that evoked a sense of luxury and indulgence- taking it’s cue from a bygone era where decadence and detail were commonplace. I wanted people to feel pampered and special but most of all, inspired. I spent the days leading up to the event creating hand made tags using water colour paper and paint and a really cute heart shaped punch. I’m pretty sure most Stylists love preparing the finer details and as such, I was running errands all week; picking up balloons, things out of storage and all sorts of bits and pieces to help bring my vision to life. On the eve of the market, I stayed up until 2am baking, tying bows, wrapping gifts for a lucky dip- pretty much surrounded by a beautiful mess and in my element!
I had my gorgeous friend Monbizwé there to help set up and provide some moral support. She was also selling a few lovely pieces. We packaged purchases in recycled highstreet paper bags with complimentary chocolates and a recycled fashion magazine for each customer. This was my favourite part as I’m big on pampering people and also on presentation. Even the bathroom was styled and renamed the ‘Powder Room’ with a cute hand made sign of it’s own. The mirror was garnished with a paper heart garland and an affirming message for guests written in lipstick. Such affairs can always afford candles in coloured moroccan glassware, accompanied by fresh flowers and fragrant oil. As you’ll see by the images above, a sensory overload for sure! mmmmm…….
More markets in the pipeline. Location will be in Canberra, venue TBA. Follow me on Facebook to receive updates. xx
